La Tuque: The Book
In
celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of
the town of La Tuque, elementary students at La Tuque School in
Quebec worked with artist Marc Sauvageau to produce a book
capturing the history of their town. Students from Grades K through
6 contributed photographs, illustrations, narrative, interviews and
research reports on La Tuque's architecture, history and landmarks
of significance to this collaborative school project.
"Youth, when put into action, can create enormous things. To me, they sure are a source of inspiration. Motivation, effort, commitment, creativity, professionalism, self-fulfillment, teamwork - here are some key words that describe the learning experience during this project. In other words, this has been a great opportunity for all of us to extend the limits of our imagination." Marc Sauvageau (artist)
"This
has been an exciting ArtsSmarts project to complete. It's not easy
to make History fun and exciting, but we think we've achieved that.
The students put their hearts and souls into writing their stories
and doing their research. The students are definitely showing that
they are proud to be Latuquois." La Turque teacher
"This project was important to me because I learned new things and worked with people. I also could put creativity in my work and design pictures and have the help of the artist that was super good with computers and that gave me more ideas for my work. I also know what people like about La Tuque and I learned more about the place that I live" La Tuque student
The project won the Prix Essor for their region and it is now entered in the provincial competition which will be announced in Rimouski in February - congratulations to the entire La Tuque: The Book team. We are very proud of you!
